Distanced Socializing Devotional- 15

Our Friday devotion was prepared by Joyce Rasmussen, a member of Christ UMC and our church Business Administrator.

Scripture: Psalms 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God”

Reflection

Our lives are so full of busyness – work, school, after-school activities and lessons, shopping, cleaning, volunteering – the list goes on and on. We often have so much to occupy ourselves that we don’t take time to notice what is most important.

This Spring we have been forced – by the pandemic – to slow down. School is cancelled, we work from home, if possible, and seldom go out except when absolutely necessary. All of a sudden many of us have extra time on our hands.

In this quiet, still season of Spring 2020, take this time to just be. Reflect on the beauty of nature – the earth is coming back to life despite the pandemic we are afraid we will contract. See the flowers blooming and hear the birds sing. The trees are budding and children play happily in their backyards. God’s creation is amazing. Take time - to Be Still – and thank our Creator for all this beauty. Know that God is present even during this difficult time. God loves us.

Prayer

“Creator God, You have given us so much beauty in our world. Help us to Be Still and reflect on all you have provided for us. Amen”

Important Announcements

Special Charge Conference called for April 13. Rev. Nancy Tomlison, our Blue River District Superintendent, has authorized a special Charge Conference meeting to be held on Monday, April 13th, at 7 pm. The meeting will be held virtually, via zoom or telephone, with Rev. Tomlison presiding. The sole topic for discussion and vote at the meeting will concern whether Christ UMC should accept any financial assistance available to it through the federal government’s CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act. Such assistance would be primarily used to enable our church to keep all of the Christ Academy teachers and church staff fully employed during this period of social separation.

Each fall, we hold an annual Church Conference, where we elect church officers, file reports required by The Book of Discipline, and approve certain components of the annual budget. These Church Conferences are open to everyone, with all official church members having voice and vote. Unlike these Church Conferences, a Charge Conference is comprised only of members of the Administrative Council and clergy who have their Charge Conference membership located at Christ UMC. A full report concerning any actions taken by the Charge Conference will be made to the entire church.
