Distanced Socializing Devotional - 34

Our Thursday devotional this week has been prepared by Loyce Weaver, a member of our church.

Scripture: Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Reflection We have lived in our house for 45 years. We live in an older neighborhood, so there aren't many children in it! For many of those years we had the same next-door neighbors. Sadly, they had to move last November and we got new neighbors. But, much to our surprise, we got the best new neighbors - with three of the most darling little boys.

When the pandemic closed schools down, their parents probably weren't so thrilled. But, that tedium which they see, has brought a lot of joy to “Mr. Dennis” and “Miss Loyce” every day. We've baked cookies, played the piano, played inside and outside, and they've loved to just "check in" to make sure we're ok.

The joy their parents see is probably not the same joy that Mr. Dennis and Miss Loyce see every day! Guess that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. Look for that joy every day and you'll find it in the eyes of a child!

Prayer Thank you God for letting us see the joy through the eyes of a child again. The praise we can see through them allows us to see your love through a new lens! Amen.
