Distanced Socializing Devotional-12

For Tuesday, our devotion was prepared by Lona Dearmont, a member of Christ UMC and our Leader of Laity.

Scripture and Prayer

Ephesians 1:17–19

17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, 18 so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power.

Reflection

Over the years, I’ve kept an index card file where I write down short passages of Scripture that speak to me. I’m not good at memorizing, so these help me remember and find verses when I want them. I file them by a word or phrase that helps me categorize them. I’ve collected several, including the one above, as well as Ephesians 3:16–19, Romans 15:13, and Colossians 1:11–14, under the category “Paul’s prayers.” These are such strong and hopeful prayers! I can’t read them without a good feeling bubbling up inside me. Prayer has not been easy for me—I often feel the tug of worldliness making it difficult to pray. Reading the prayers of the Apostle Paul kindles the spark of the Holy Spirit again when I most need it.
